2008 Prairie Dog Match The 4th annual Prairie Dog Match, held April 20, 2008, was cold (-4oC) which may account for the less than expected turnout like previous years! Thank goodness for the enclosed heated area at the long range! As it was, 13 souls braved the chilly weather to shoot those ‘Prairie Dogs’ (though the real dogs were still hibernating). There were 10 competitors for the Varmint class (heavy) and 4 for Sporter class, taking into account that one shooter, Barry, shot in both classes. After shooting 5 shots at 3 different distances, 100, 200 and 300 metres, there was 2 new “Top Dogs”! The winner and ‘Top Dog’ of the Varmint class was Don Pippolo with 98 points, 2nd was Richard Dreger with 88 points, and 3rd was Ron Brady with 81 points. The winner and ‘Top Dog’ of the Sporter class was Barry Prost with 66 points, 2nd was Kevin Kansky with 44 points, and 3rd was Don Morphy with 31 points. The ‘Top Dog’ winners names will be inscribed onto the ‘Top Dog’ trophy; as well as, 1st to 3rd place winners received a keeper plaque to take home. In the Team match, which was run concurrently, 1st was the team of Barry Prost and Ron Brady with a combined total of 147 points, 2nd Richard Dreger and Jim Benge with a combined total of 141 points, and 3rd Tom Fripp and Aimee Debert with 116 points. First place received a cash prize and 1st to 3rd place received metals. The winner of the one shot at 500m at a target the size of about 2.5 inches was Alan McLean. Alan was the first and only one to hit his target at this range. Alan won a cash prize. Thanks to all who helped run this Match: Mark Anderson (match director), Don Pippolo who ran his ATV up to set up targets, Tom Fripp, Barry Prost and Don Morphy for lending a hand. Thank you Bernice Debert for the coffee run!
